Tradesperson of the Year
This award, recognises a Queensland licensed plumber, drainer, or gas fitter who demonstrates exceptional workmanship and positively contributes to the industry through leadership and ongoing professional development.
Eligibility
The below requirements must be met to be eligible for this award category:
- Candidates must hold a current QBCC licence in at least one of the relevant fields (plumber, drainer) and optionally, a QLD Gas Work licence.
- Candidates must be based in Queensland, Australia.
- Candidates must be able to provide evidence of workmanship, leadership, and ongoing professional development (no site inspections will be conducted).
- Candidates can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else.
- All work must be available for judging through photos and video evidence.

Further Information
Nominees will be evaluated based on:
- Leadership – Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and positively impact colleagues and apprentices.
- Workmanship – Commitment to high-quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and best practices in plumbing, drainage, or gas fitting.
- Technical ability and knowledge of acts and regulations – Strong understanding and application of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Industry awareness – Knowledge of industry trends, innovations, and changes in regulations.
- Involvement and contributions to the industry – Participation in industry initiatives, associations, events, or community projects.
- Work ethic – Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and dedication to the trade.
- Completion of the nomination questionnaire, providing insights into the candidate’s skills, leadership, and industry contributions.
- Submission of a minimum of 10 high-resolution photos showcasing the candidate’s professional achievements and on-the-job work.
- Optional: Video footage demonstrating technical skills or discussing industry contributions.
- Employer, colleague, or industry peer reference supporting the nomination.
Failure to submit any required information by the stated deadlines may result in disqualification.
Following the completion of the judging, all finalists for this award will be notified and invited to attend the 2026 Plumbing & Gas Industry Awards. All award finalists can purchase tickets at the finalist rate (limit 10 per finalist) – equal to the early bird member discounted price.
Finalists may also be asked to participate in media opportunities but will be contacted first by MPAQ to assess interest.
If you are the winner of this award category, you will receive:
- A trophy, gift and certificate.
- Public recognition at the 2026 Awards Presentation Dinner and a feature in the Summer 2026 edition of the Master Plumber Magazine.
